The Start of the Story & In-Universe Lore

The Havenplace AU (not Haventale, that name was already taken, lol) starts as any other Undertale alternate universe does- with the great human (mage) and monster war. However, where Havenplace deviates is here- the humans successfully sealed monsters Underground, but then... monsters suddenly started falling from the sky, or appearing from the forest, or surfacing from the nearby river. Despite the human's previous hatred, these monsters found a home in Havenville, despite what was going on in Ebbot and outside of their scope of knowledge. It was- quite literally- a haven for monsters seeking refuge, often missing memories of where they were from or how they got there. Humans eventually gave up their grudge with monsters and signed a peace treaty, so monsters could integrate into a now much more accepting society. Then the Underground monsters were freed by a fallen human, and found a much safer place awaiting them.

The story technically starts when a ragtag group of skeletons shows up at Zil'ec's door, but they've actually been there for six months already- struggling to get along, finding places to put The Machine (the dimensional transporter) back together after it broke on their arrivals, and (unintentionally) exhausting everyone who will have them in town's patience because they don't have enough space for all of these skeletons!

...Except for the monster living alone in a mansion in the woods. That monster is Zil'ec (or Zee, for short), and- unknown to the skele-group- they've been living there for five years... Not always alone, but since everyone else left... Well, you can imagine how lonely it'd be. And then how suddenly chaotic it would be if a bunch of strangers seeking shelter and help suddenly showed up waaaay early in the morning, after having been lost for three whole days and nights.

_{(LTM's story started as a "can these skeletons get along, provided that there's no 'original Sans or Papyrus' to complicate things," and has evolved into something much bigger and tougher to handle. Not that I mind, but it seems I have to do a LOT more worldbuilding now make sense of the world... heh. I do want to treat the serious topics that come up in this story with care, though. There's going to be mentions- and examples of- gender journeys/struggles, some mild addictions, mental illnesses like anxiety/depression/PTSD, being neurodivergent or "different" from one's peers like having mental illness or things like autism/ADHD, struggling with relationships, and self-worth/self-esteem issues.)}

A Very Simple Description of Less Than Magic

When a group of skeleton monsters are thrown into a universe far from their own, it'll take nothing less than magic to finally get them to cooperate and fix the machine that brought them there. But some of them wonder, were they brought here for a reason...?

Zil’ec (also known as Zee) is a monster who knows next to nothing about monsters, having been one of the few monsters that lived aboveground while others were trapped in their version of the Underground. 5 years ago, monsters reintegrated into society, and now Zee was left knowing nothing about their history or culture.

Zee is no stranger to odd occurrences and strange people, because Havenplace always was a bit… Weird. Very welcoming, but very weird. So when one of their friend’s adopted genius teenage prodigy accidentally summons some skeletons from other dimensions, it’s just a regular Tuesday kind of situation. One, of course, that Zil'ec doesn't know of until much later, due to literally living in the middle of the woods.

But when those skeles show up at Zee’s house 6 months later- lost, cold, tired, and hungry- Well, Zee can’t say no to those temporarily needing shelter, right…?
